My cashmeres and fine woolens look down on me from their shelves and hangars. “Soon,” I tell them. “Very soon.” I stand in my closet and plan the layering that will wrap me in warmth with a rich and beautiful mix of textures and silhouettes. And, with colder weather dressing on my mind I begin to think mink.
Who isn’t thinking mink this season? As I scroll the various fashion sites on a Saturday morning, a cup of hot tea next to me, I see image after image of beautiful mink coats, jackets, vests and elegant mink-trimmed garments. It is a good season for mink indeed!
Mink seems to be a designer favorite this season, appearing in bold new silhouettes, graphic intarsia designs, delicious colors, innovative treatments. And why wouldn’t it be? In more practical terms, it is one of the most durable and versatile of furs. It has become well-established for its luxury cache. In its natural state it comes in a broad range of shades from whiskey gold to mahogany and white to grey as well as extraordinarily beautiful mutations such as jaguar mink and cross mink. It can be woven, sheared, knitted, stenciled and richly dyed to allow for exciting creative explorations.
