The year in promotions began at the Beijing Fur Fair at the beginning of January. The Fur Fair Gala show kicked off the event, with over eight hundred guests on hand to take in the show and the presentation of the twenty semi-finalists of the NAFA Cup, the national design competition sponsored by NAFA. Three finalists were selected by an international panel of judges. The prizes – of an all expense paid trip to Studio NAFA – were awarded on stage by Canada’s Ambassador to China, Mr. David Mulroney and NAFA’s V.P. of Advertising & Promotion, Diane Benedetti.
The attendance at this year’s event increased dramatically – up 35% for a total of 16,500 visitors this year, with the largest increase coming from domestic visitors. Ready-to-wear designers and wholesalers looking for new fur fashion trends along with boutique owners looking to cash in on the popularity of fur fashions were among the visitors.
Special Recognition award
NAFA President & CEO Michael Mengar received a ‘Special Recognition Award’ onstage from Mr. Zhu Fu Tang, Deputy President of China Tuhsu. The honor was bestowed upon Michael Mengar for his years of contribution to the China Fur Industry.
